The purpose of the Day Skipper course is to bring students up to a level where by they can confidently skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day and in favourable conditions.
It is a beginners skippering course and does for skippers what the competent crew course does for crews.
We run a continuous 5 day prep course directly followed by the exam.
It is a flexible course designed deliberately to fine tune your existing skills and to take into account the different needs of each candidate on the course.
This course provides a 2 day introduction to sail cruising for novices.
By the end of the course participants will have experienced steering a yacht, sail handling, rope work and be aware of safety onboard.
We are a fully recognised RYA Training Centre offering the complete range of RYA practical sailing courses.
Our aim is to maximise the enjoyment you get from the RYA’s structured learning process, ensuring your safety as well as the safety of others around you by learning in a fun, safe and controlled environment.
Our RYA qualified instructors have all been chosen for their sociable approach as well as their expertise to make the time you spend with us as much fun as it is a learning experience.
Sailing is an extremely fun and social sport which can be enjoyed by anyone at any level with any budget.
It is important however to remember that sailing is not without risk which is why we believe it is essential to get off to the best start.
However it doesn’t stop here, as you gain both experience and confidence you will want to improve on your sailing skills and to possibly gain further qualifications.
Yes our courses are more expensive than other sailing schools BUT from the feedback we have received, for many the concept of sharing the confines of a small cabin for 5 days with someone they have never met is not that appealing.
For this reason we offer everyone their own cabin (unless you are booking as a couple and are happy to share!! in which case we offer you a 30% discount off your course fee).
So whilst this inevitably pushes up the price of the course, the benefit of having your own cabin as well as the fact that the student / instructor ratio drops down in most instances to 3:1 we believe makes the extra expense worthwhile.
Courses are run on either of our modern Beneteau Oceanis 343 or our Beneteau Oceanis 37. These yachts are extremely well presented and are ideal training yachts.
To keep the cost of the course down most sailing schools maximise the number of students on each course.
We feel that although paying a little extra, your enjoyment of the course will be far greater because of our policy on student instructor ratios and sleeping arrangements.
We operate out of the River Hamble & Portsmouth Harbour both of which give easy access into the Solent.
The tidal waters of the Solent area are ideal for teaching both novice and advanced students alike, offering as it does not only sheltered waters but every conceivable light, buoy, or situation that you are ever likely to encounter as you progress through the RYA training programme.
